At the Thursday, April 19, 2018, Board of Education Meeting, Mr. Rice and Mrs. Layton presented the following concerns that were raised at the April 12, 2018 CAC Meeting.

The Board took the following actions:

  • Approved the motion that teachers will not be armed.
  • Discussed the door safety issue at C-SDHS, and the request for a door security monitoring system. Mr. Abt will take the information to the DCPS School Safety Committee to evaluate, and if deemed suitable will develop an RFP for installation before the next school year.
  • Discussed the locked NDHS outer door which leads to the portable building that houses the nurses. Mr. Rice noted that as a temporary fix a wireless door bell could be installed. Mr. Abt will have facilities follow-up to see what can be installed and will check to see if this is a similar situation with portables at other school sites.
  • Discussed the lack of communication between C-SDHS and DCTC when there have been lock downs or other security incidents. All schools will be notified to have a process in to notify neighboring school buildings when a lock-down, stay-in-place, or any other emergency concern is taking place.
