Virtual Summer Learning Program

“S.T.E.A.M. helping to build and implement students’ dreams”

“Collaboration for Great Imaginations…Quest for Success”

June 15, 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian:

It is with great excitement that I present to you a fun, new, summer learning opportunity as we adapt to the changing environment and consider the safety of all students. Dorchester County Public Schools is offering the 21st Century Virtual Summer Learning Program; an opportunity to keep students and families connected with teachers and community members through an online learning experience with a focus in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.

This opportunity is designed for students completing grades 3-5 and currently enrolled in one of our Title I Elementary Schools, (Maple, Sandy Hill, Hurlock, and Choptank Elementary Schools). The 21st Century STEAM Virtual Summer Learning Program is an extension of our afterschool program designed to help students gain and retain knowledge as they learn to problem-solve through critical thinking and team-building. It encourages students to apply skills learned in and out of the classroom to navigate real-world situations through the process of inquiry and exploration.

STEAM is a grant-funded program that requires program accountability by monitoring student progress and development. This information will assist us in meeting our goals to increase student achievement while building confidence, personal enrichment, and self-esteem.

We strongly encourage parent/guardian support by ensuring your child’s regular attendance, participation in Class DoJo for student progress updates. This can be enjoyed from the comfort and safety of your home as the 21st Century Virtual Summer Learning Program will run completely online from July 6th through August 6th, Monday-Thursday 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Your child may also have the opportunity to receive monthly STEAM kits mailed to your home to continue age-appropriate STEAM activities with your family at home. Please indicate on the online registration form if you would like to receive STEAM kits at no cost to you.

If you are interested in your child participating in the 21st Century S.T.E.A.M. Virtual Summer Learning Program, please complete the online registration on the DCPS website by Tuesday, June 30th, 2020. If you have any additional questions, please call (410) 228-4747 Ext. 1038 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We look forward to another great summer of exploring, learning, and growing together as we continue to plant the seed of “College and Career Readiness”.

Kindest Regards,

Jamelle Nance
