NDMS Destination Imagination Team Heads to State Finals

The North Dorchester Middle School Destination Imagination team came home with the first-place trophy in their category at the regional competition in Salisbury on February 29, earning them a place in the State Finals.

Seventh graders Jase Todd, Daniel Yorton, and Limver Zepeda and eighth graders Isaiah Hughes and Jamar Williams competed in the middle school engineering category. Their tasks included building a weight-bearing bridge to specification using only duct tape and playing cards and an “instant challenge” in which they had five minutes to plan and execute an engineering assignment presented to them on the spot.

Destination Imagination is an educational non-profit organization that “teaches 21st century skills and STEM principles to students through collaborative problem-solving challenges”. Competitions are held across the U.S. and around the world.

NDMS science teacher Genna Hatfield is the team’s staff advisor.
