Student Wins Statewide Art Recognition

Student Wins Statewide Art Recognition

 

Andrew Mitchell, whose work “Working Hard Tools” was chosen for First Lady Yumi Hogan’s Fall 2019 Student Art Exhibition, was one of three students statewide awarded an “Outstanding Accomplishment in Visual Arts” recognition by Mrs. Hogan. The award was presented at the exhibition’s opening reception at the House of Delegates in Annapolis on November 6. Andrew is a 6th grader at North Dorchester Middle School.

The selected piece was created and entered for the show at the end of the last school year while Andrew was a student at Vienna Elementary School with art teacher Keely Patton.

North Dorchester High School 9th grader Zhaden Dixon’s piece “Sunrise” was also chosen as part of the exhibition. His work was created while an 8th grader at North Dorchester Middle School with art teacher Elizabeth Clarke. The two students’ works are on display with others from schools throughout Maryland at the House of Delegates Gallery Space in Annapolis.
