South Dorchester School National Junior Honor Society Induction

On Wednesday, November 20, 2019, fifteen middle school students at South Dorchester School were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society.

The SDS NJHS advisor, Melanie Holliday led the ceremony, she introduced all new inductees and defined the purpose of the ceremony. Jennifer Ruark, SDS principal, gave greetings and closing remarks, where she commented on how proud she was of the students and thanked the attendees for their support.

Jon Harper, current New Directions Learning Academy assistant principal was the guest speaker. Mr. Harper delivered an inspirational speech with an emphasis on character and the idea of giving yourself “grace”. He let the students know that making mistakes is a part of life; however, how you react and correct them makes a difference.

Those inducted into the chapter were recognized for displaying four key principles: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Living by these cardinal principles, coupled with a 3.7 cumulative GPA, the students have made a commitment to prepare for college, career, and a lifetime of success, beginning with being chosen to be NJHS members. Those inducted were Sadie Carels, Tekai Drummond, Isabelle Hughes, Nathan Huber, Christina Hyde, Laila Insley, Elaina Jones, William Linthicum, Nathan McClarren, Jacob Mitchell, Madison Robbins, Kennedy Roberts, Layne Williams, Peyton Williams, and Tori Willis.
