9-day Welcome Program

Before the school year begins, new teachers are invited to participate in a 9-day paid professional learning conference to prepare for the school year.  During this time teachers meet their administrators, Mentors, Teacher Buddies and content supervisors, tour schools, learn school and district protocols, receive and initiate use of educational technology, and begin planning for their classes before returning staff and students enter the buildings.

New Teacher Mentors

Each new teacher is assigned a New Teacher Mentor, who provides weekly research-based instructional guidance, assists teachers in creating a data-driven continuum of professional growth, and offers collegial networking throughout the school year. These Mentors are carefully selected veteran teachers with decades of experience to share, who provide new teachers  the following supports crucial to fomenting our students' achievement:

  • Co-teaching

  • Instructional planning, support and design

  • Data-analysis guidance

  • Designing, delivering and evaluating professional development

  • Facilitating teaching collaboration and networking

  • Grading and assessment guidance

  • Classroom management planning

  • Professional planning for career advancement opportunities

During these class visits, new teachers take notes,  plan and collaborate together with a common or complementary goal in mind under the guidance of a Mentor.
