Substitute Hiring Information

**ATTENTION**

Please apply online if you are interested in becoming a substitute. You will be notified when the next interviews are held. Applications remain in our substitute pool for one (1) year.

Requirements:

Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute for Dorchester County Public Schools.

The requirements for being a substitute are as follows:

  • You must be 18 years of age at time of substitute workshop.

  • You must have a GED or high school degree.

  • You must pass a criminal background check.

Background checks and fingerprinting are conducted in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment within Dorchester County Public Schools.

Our goal of continuously promoting the physical, social, and psychological well-being of our students is accomplished through the initiation of adequate background investigations of all personnel as required by law.

Fingerprint appointments are only available to DCPS new hires or when the Office of Human Resources notifies an individual of the need to reprint due to clarification. If there is a question regarding this process or an issue scheduling an appointment, please contact the Office of Human Resources at 410-228-4747. A fee in the amount of $40.00 (non-refundable/non-reimbursable) will apply for fingerprint processing; payable by check or money order ONLY to Dorchester County Public Schools. Fingerprint cards/background checks from other school systems, government offices, or police agencies will not be accepted.

Teacher/Instructional Assistant substitutes must attend the substitute workshop/orientation session before starting work.

Steps to become a Substitute:

  1. Complete the Substitute Application online for a substitute position. www.dcpsmd.org: Job Openings

  2. Your application will remain in the applicant pool for one year from date of submission.

  3. You will be contacted by the HR Office when openings become available.

  4. An interview will be scheduled prior to hiring through the HR Office.

  5. Candidates selected to become substitutes will complete required employment paperwork and background checks.
