Update: Findings from Community Vision Sessions
Dorchester County Public Schools is pleased to announce that it has selected Hazard Young Attea Associates (HYA) to support and guide the search for its next Superintendent. The chosen candidate is slated to assume the position by July 1, 2024.
Recognized for its expertise in executive searches within the education sector, HYA brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in identifying top-tier leadership talent. With a commitment to excellence and a direct engagement with the Board to connect with the unique needs of Dorchester County Public Schools, HYA will assist the Board of Education by facilitating the process of recruiting, vetting, and recommending qualified candidates for comprehensive and inclusive search.

The search for a new Superintendent comes at a pivotal time for Dorchester County Public Schools as it seeks a visionary leader to guide the district forward in achieving its educational goals and priorities. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to shape the future of education in Dorchester County, driving academic excellence across all schools and communities.
The Board, with Mr. Wheedleton serving as facilitator, will hold 3 different community stakeholder meetings spread across the county to gain community input and thoughts on what they feel is most needed in our schools and in our next Superintendent. The dates and locations of those meetings will be announced separately starting in April. The Superintendent Search process is designed to engage all district stakeholders, including parents, teachers, administrators, staff, students, and community residents, in developing a shared vision for our future leader. The goal is to select a Superintendent who embodies the values of the community and is dedicated to fostering a culture of collaboration, student achievement, and creating the conditions for success for every individual connected with our school system.
In addition to the community forums, community members will have the opportunity to participate in the process via a Community Survey to provide an additional opportunity for insights, ideas, and aspirations critical to a successful search. The survey will be accessible from today, March 27 – April 9, 2024. The survey can be accessed here: https://hyasurvey.com/dorchester.
