New Member Joins Dorchester County Board of Education

Ms. Talibah Chikwendu was sworn in as a member of the Board of Education of Dorchester County at the opening of the April 11, 2024 Special Meeting of the Board, having been appointed to the District 2 seat by the Dorchester County Council due to the December 2023 death of Dr. Theresa Stafford.

Ms. Chikwendu is a Dorchester County native and a graduate of Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. An educator, she holds Maryland teaching certifications in secondary English, secondary business education, PreK-12 art and as a PreK-12 librarian/media specialist. As a former employee of Dorchester County Public Schools, she has taught all grade levels as well as serving as a regular and long-term substitute. She has worked at Mace’s Lane Middle School, Maple Elementary School, North Dorchester Middle School, North Dorchester High School, Choptank Elementary School, Warwick Elementary School, Vienna Elementary School and was most recently an English teacher at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, having left the school in January 2024. Ms. Chikwendu holds undergraduate degrees in Interdisciplinary Studies and Visual Communications, as well as an M.B.A. in Project Management and an M.S. in School Librarianship.

Prior to her career in education, Ms. Chikwendu spent 14 years as a journalist, serving in several capacities at the Dorchester Banner and the AFRO American Newspapers, including those of Managing Editor and Executive Editor. She resides in Cambridge and has one child.
