On Monday, we will witness a stellar event! However, we want to shed some light on do's and don'ts with a Solar Eclipse as this will be taking place around dismissal time! A partial solar eclipse will take place on Monday, April 8, 2024, and will be visible in Dorchester County. The eclipse will begin at approximately 2:00 pm and end around 4:30 pm, with maximum coverage at around 3:20 pm. The day of the eclipse will be a regular school day for Dorchester County Public Schools, and we urge families to remind their children about the following safety tips: • Never look directly at the sun, especially during a solar eclipse. It is dangerous and can cause permanent eye damage. Do not look at the sun through sunglasses, binoculars, or telescopes. • Anyone using special viewing glasses or filters should only use those that conform to all International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards. • If you purchase special viewing glasses, ensure they are from reputable manufacturers. There have been reports of counterfeit products labeled as if they conform to international safety standards. The American Astronomical Society, whose products are known to conform to ISO standards, provides a list of reputable companies that conform to safety standards. Further interesting information about solar eclipses can be found on NASA’s website at: 2024 Total Eclipse (nasa.gov).

Please help me in congratulating the following student athletes for earning our Athlete of the month for March. Picture above is front row Dave Morrissette (ND Athletic Director, Jackson Nehring, Zachary Adams. Back row is Maddie Tobat and Vice Principal Erin Moore). This month’s winners are: Boys Varsity – sponsored by Parker Hinson / Erin Wheatley Hinson Track and Field - Zachary Adams Coach Melvin Young stated Zachary Adams has been on the Track Team for four years and has proven to be an exceptional athlete, a leader, and a positive role model for freshmen members of the team. He always shows up and shows out when it’s time to perform. Zachary always works well with the coaching staff . At our first home meet Zachary won the 100 meters, the 200 meters and was a member of the winning 4x100 meters relay team. It has been a pleasure to coach Zachary for the last four years. Girls Varsity - sponsored by Parker Hinson / Erin Wheatley Hinson Tennis: Maddie Tobat Coach Grace Mehrizi stated that Maddie is 6-0 at first singles and first doubles. She is a leader and a team player. In every match she plays, she never gives up. Maddie has a great attitude and is always willing to put in the time to work on her game! So, I nominate Maddie for NDHS Athlete of the Month! JV Athlete – sponsored by Cambridge / Easton Premier Cinemas JV Baseball – Jackson Nehring Coach Joey Warfield’s nomination for AOM is Jackson Nehring, who is currently carrying a 4.0 GPA and has stepped up as a role model, and a great team leader on and off the field and is always going above and beyond at practice and game times.
