Ms. Ashley Robinson, principal of Dorchester Career and Technology Center, is today’s star principal, as we continue to celebrate National Principals Month. When asked what she wants most for her students, Ms. Robinson said, “My greatest wish for my students is that they enter adulthood feeling confident and prepared for their futures . . . I know they are destined to be great and cannot wait to see them experience success.” Thank you for the role you play in that success, Ms. Robinson! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS #ThankAPrincipal

Students from Dorchester Career and Technology Center’s SkillsUSA chapter were recently invited to speak to the Rotary Club about their summer trip to the National Competition in Atlanta. Senior Ta’Tyana Maradiaga and Junior Maddie Tobat shared their experience of the competition, along with general information about the SkillsUSA program. The DCTC Skills teams placed 8th nationally in Health Sciences and 11th nationally in Robotics. The chapter received the USA Model of Excellence Award for the 4th time in six years. Maddie and Ta’Tyana are pictured here with SkillsUSA advisor Chef Charlene Zinnel and Rotary President-Elect Angie Hengst. #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS

They may look like an ordinary class, but Mrs. Trumbull’s 5th graders at Maple Elementary are IRONKIDS! So says one of Dorchester County’s recent Ironman Maryland visitors, Mr. B, who received a letter from class member Zoey. Mr. B. replied with notes to Zoey and Mrs. Trumbull, enclosing what is now the “class medal” with a smiling sea nettle (an unofficial symbol of Ironman Maryland) and a gift card for extra classroom supplies. We love the connections this event creates between our kiddos and athletes from throughout the world! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS

How is math like playing sports or music? Skills improve through practice! Your child can sharpen their math skills through practicing on one of two online platforms available through DCPS: i-Ready for grades kindergarten through 8 and IXL for grades 9 through 12. To access these platforms, go to www.clever.com; sign in using DCPS email and password; click the icon for the platform you want to use, and off you go! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS

“Which is your House?” That’s the Big Question as students returned to school earlier this month to discover that the House system has been adopted in every DCPS school. Over the last few weeks, both staff and students have been ‘sorted’ into Houses - smaller, family-like groupings within their school that allow students to become familiar and work side-by-side with children of different ages; offer further opportunities to learn leadership skills; and develop supportive relationships with a wide range of adults. Houses encourage healthy competition, and everyone can win points for their House through sports competitions, academic success, artistic endeavors, attendance, or team spirit – all can contribute, and everyone belongs! Here are some of our DCPS folk celebrating their House! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS

It was a beautiful day in Dorchester County for about 1200 athletes who set out from Gerry Boyle Park this morning to prove that “anything is possible” in Ironman Maryland 2023. Waiting for them at the finish line, 140.6 miles later, were two Dorchester County Public Schools students who had the honor of presenting the first male and female finishers with their medals. The first man to finish was Michael Weiss from Austria, who received his medal from Choptank Elementary 5th grader Ky’Ren Stanley. American Alice Alberts was the first woman across the finish line and received her medal from Choptank Elementary 5th grader Ja’Zyiah Mills. Congratulations to the first place finishers, and the youngsters who put those medals around their necks! There will be athletes on the course tonight until midnight so why not head downtown to cheer them on? #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS

Ironman Maryland is a huge event for our community, and many of our youngsters have great opportunities to be involved.
