Dr. Donald Boyd, Jr. has joined Dorchester County Public Schools as Supervisor of Strategic Initiatives, with the primary task of overseeing the implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future throughout public schools in the county.
Dr. Boyd comes to DCPS from Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) in Washington, D.C., where he was most recently a Policy Fellow, assisting in policy research and content development and executing the organization’s community engagement efforts. Originally from Mississippi, Dr. Boyd has extensive school-based experience, having been a teacher, assistant principal, and principal in his home state. He holds a Master of Science in Biological Science and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College, having earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Mississippi.
Superintendent of Schools Dave Bromwell said, “DCPS is very fortunate to have a leader of Dr. Boyd’s caliber to implement the Blueprint, ensuring the best possible outcomes for all Dorchester County students. The Blueprint has the potential to make a huge impact on our county, helping to produce the workforce and community leaders we need for our county’s success through the 21st century.”
“My work here is about how we will make this plan specific to what we need in Dorchester County,” said Dr. Boyd, “with the end goal always being student achievement.”
The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future is a landmark piece of legislation, passed by the Maryland General Assembly in 2021 to enhance and improve state and local investment in, and school system operation of, Maryland’s public school system. It is based upon the work of the Kirwan Commission.
