The most successful of these early humans were those who excelled at this ability to move around - and they were the ones who survived to pass their DNA down the millennia to us. Dear Dorchester Colleagues and Community Members, On December 15, 2016, I informed the Board of Education of Dorchester County in executive session of my decision to retire as Superintendent of Dorchester County Public Schools effective July 1, 2017. I make this decision because of compelling personal, family, and professional considerations – and with a variety of mixed emotions. Simply stated, it is time for me to embark upon the next enterprises of my life and career.

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Dorchester County Public Schools is pleased to announce “Youth Mental Health First Aid” trainings as part of the Project AWARE grant. This training is an 8-hour public education program designed for adults who regularly interact with adolescents (teachers, school staff, coaches, youth group leaders, parents, etc.). As noted on the Youth Mental Health First Aid website, the training “introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge.” For more…

2016 Superintendent's Holiday Card Slideshow

2016 is the third year that Dorchester County Public Schools has held the Superintendent’s Holiday Card Contest. Students from across the school district in grades K-12 create and submit works of art with a holiday theme that are considered for the cover artwork for Dr. Wagner’s holiday card. This year’s winner from Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, sophomore Kimberly Larimer, submitted a Maryland-themed holiday blue crab holding lights on a trotline. This image is both representative of our county and our holiday traditions. All student winners will be publicly recognized with their artwork at the January 19th meeting of the Board…
