Today we salute a paws-itively super principal, the leader of the Warwick Elementary pack, Ms. Marybeth Blake! What does Ms. Blake wish to be her legacy from her years as an educator? “I want my legacy to be that I have empowered all children to have confidence to be their own advocate, to leave their seven years of elementary school having a voice to stand up for what they need to be successful in their educational career and as they navigate life. I want children to be kind, fair, and inclusive of others.” Happy National Principals Month, Ms. Blake! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS #ThankAPrincipal

Big congratulations to Cambridge-South Dorchester High School principal Mr. Jerome Stover on receiving the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education (MBRT) June E. Streckfus Leadership in Education Partnerships Award for his outstanding support of the Next Generation Scholars Program at C-SD! Mr. Stover was selected for this recognition by MBRT from programs throughout Maryland. Next Generation Scholars Programs help students determine career interests and support students through the college and financial aid application process, and at C-SD is coordinated by Ms. Lauri Bell. Mr. Stover is pictured holding his award with Ms. Shamya Johnson-Stover, Human Resources Administrator for Hiring and Recruitment for Dorchester County Public Schools.
Nine C-SD students, part of the Next Generation Scholars Program, also attended the MBRT Industry Day and Annual Meeting to cheer on Mr. Stover as he received his recognition. The event was held at McCormick Headquarters in Hunt Valley, where students met other Next Generation Scholars from across the state, learn about McCormick and the company’s careers, learn about how spices are made, talk to flavorists, and sample different flavors/spices. They also heard from Chef Stretch of Next Level Chef, a local Baltimore young man making a name for himself in the culinary industry. #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS #CreatingTheFutureDCPS

They may look like an ordinary class, but Mrs. Trumbull’s 5th graders at Maple Elementary are IRONKIDS! So says one of Dorchester County’s recent Ironman Maryland visitors, Mr. B, who received a letter from class member Zoey. Mr. B. replied with notes to Zoey and Mrs. Trumbull, enclosing what is now the “class medal” with a smiling sea nettle (an unofficial symbol of Ironman Maryland) and a gift card for extra classroom supplies. We love the connections this event creates between our kiddos and athletes from throughout the world! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS

“Which is your House?” That’s the Big Question as students returned to school earlier this month to discover that the House system has been adopted in every DCPS school. Over the last few weeks, both staff and students have been ‘sorted’ into Houses - smaller, family-like groupings within their school that allow students to become familiar and work side-by-side with children of different ages; offer further opportunities to learn leadership skills; and develop supportive relationships with a wide range of adults. Houses encourage healthy competition, and everyone can win points for their House through sports competitions, academic success, artistic endeavors, attendance, or team spirit – all can contribute, and everyone belongs! Here are some of our DCPS folk celebrating their House! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS
