It's IT Professionals Day! Thank you to the Dorchester County Public Schools IT professionals who largely work behind the scenes but perform all kinds of magic to keep staff and students online all the time! Each of our schools has its own tech wizard – here’s just a few of them, doing their thing. #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS
Whether a Nana or Mom-Mom, a Pop-Pop or Grandy, a Mimi, Grandad, or Dodi, all grandparents were welcome this morning at Sandy Hill Elementary School to spend some special time with a special grandchild, learning about their school life, on this Grandparents Day! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS

It was a beautiful day in Dorchester County for about 1200 athletes who set out from Gerry Boyle Park this morning to prove that “anything is possible” in Ironman Maryland 2023. Waiting for them at the finish line, 140.6 miles later, were two Dorchester County Public Schools students who had the honor of presenting the first male and female finishers with their medals. The first man to finish was Michael Weiss from Austria, who received his medal from Choptank Elementary 5th grader Ky’Ren Stanley. American Alice Alberts was the first woman across the finish line and received her medal from Choptank Elementary 5th grader Ja’Zyiah Mills. Congratulations to the first place finishers, and the youngsters who put those medals around their necks! There will be athletes on the course tonight until midnight so why not head downtown to cheer them on? #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS
Today’s the day! Go, triathletes! And if you’re fast enough to finish first, two Dorchester County Public Schools students will be there to greet you and place that coveted medal around your neck! Ky’Ren Stanley and Ja’Zyiah Mills, both 5th graders in Ms. Travis’ class at Choptank Elementary School, will be waiting for you! Here they are, being cheered on by their classmates yesterday afternoon after finding out their school chose them for this honor! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS
Ironman Maryland is a huge event for our community, and many of our youngsters have great opportunities to be involved. Last night, more than 70 Dorchester County Public Schools kiddos participated in the Welcome Ceremony for the event, as flag bearers carrying the flags representing the home countries of this year’s competitors and as part of the North Dorchester High School Marching Eagles. Have a great race tomorrow, Crabby Nation! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS
It’s special delivery time as IRONMAN Maryland triathletes arriving today and tomorrow for Saturday’s event each receive a letter of welcome and encouragement written by a student from one of our schools. And what do the recipients say? They give their stamp of approval! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS

He's baaaaaack! Legendary science teacher Mr. Dan Hortert is back in a North Dorchester High School classroom after a several year hiatus while he did a test-run retirement. We’re so glad to welcome Mr. Hortert back to his natural habitat! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS
Thank you to those members of our community, led by Ian Nabb, who stuffed over 60 new backpacks with school supplies for our kiddos! Mr. Nabb, a 2005 graduate of C-SD, wanted to celebrate his mother, Mrs. Linda Nabb and her work in our school system. Mrs. Nabb was a member of the Dorchester County Board of Education from 1993 to 2004, serving as president for part of that time. What better way of celebrating dedication to education than helping ensure all our students are equipped to learn? Mr. Nabb is pictured here with DCPS Director of Student Services Mr. Kirk Howie. #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS

Dear Crabby Nation,
It’s only the first week of school, but students all over Dorchester County have been writing letters to welcome you to the best event ever, Ironman Maryland 2023! Here are Ms. Crystal and Ms. Ray’s 5th grade classes at Warwick Elementary School working on their letters, offering encouragement, and even advice as you prepare for the Big Day. As you can see, we think you’re awesome and we’ll be cheering you on in just nine days!
With love from your friends at Dorchester County Public Schools ❤
This morning, Dorchester County Public Schools welcomed (take a deep breath) our Classes of 2038 and 2037 to Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 and the Class of 2036 to Kindergarten! Here are a few of those kiddos from Maple Elementary and South Dorchester School. There’s an important journey ahead and we are delighted to have all these little learners on board with us! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS
Dorchester County Public Schools hosted a distinguished visitor today, Brigadier General (Ret.) Warner Sumpter, a member of the Maryland State Board of Education. BG (Ret.) Sumpter, along with Superintendent Dave Bromwell, Dorchester County Board of Education President Dr. Susan Morgan and member Sheri Hubbard, toured Hurlock Elementary and North Dorchester Middle Schools with principals Dawn Corkran and Vaughn Evans, who couldn’t be prouder of their Mighty Eagles and Owls! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS
Starting in Kindergarten, they’ve been through 12 first days of school together, but today, the 13th, is significant – it is their last. To mark the occasion, members of North Dorchester Class of 2024 gathered outside the school stadium this morning to see the sun rise together on their last first day of school. #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS
Hurlock Elementary’s Mighty Eagles looked their best for the first day of school this morning, thanks to generous stylists and barbers in the community! Thank you to Mr. Vaughn Bowen, Mr. Kevin Cephas, Ms. Ebony Cornish, Ms. Elaine Stiegler, Ms. Tyronda Woolford, and Ms. Lisa Green for donating their skills last week to cut, style, braid, trim, bead, and do whatever ensured that the Mighty Eagles looked and felt great. Organized by and at the school, over 40 students signed up for the pampering treatment and left looking absolutely fab! #AllHandsOnDeckDCPS
